ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: January 24, 2005 <br />Action Agen <br />Item No. <br />SUBJECT: Petition for Addition of Subdivision Roads to the NC Secondary Road System <br />DEPARTMENT: Planning and Inspections <br />PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Map of Price Creek Estates: Booth Road, Karen Lincoln, ext. 2594 <br />Amber Wood Run <br />Petition Letter & Secondary Road Addition Investigation TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />Report for Booth Rd, & Amber Wood Run Hillsborough 732-8181 <br />Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br />Durham 688-7331 <br />Mebane (336)227-2031 <br />PURPOSE: To consider a petition to add portions of two subdivision roads to the state-maintained <br />Secondary Road System. <br />BACKGROUND: Price Creek Estates: Residents of Price Creek Subdivision (9 homes in <br />Chatham County) have petitioned the North Carolina department of Transportation (NCDOT) <br />Division 7 to accept maintenance responsibilities for a 0,03-mile portion of Amber Wood Run and a <br />0.05-mile portion of Booth Road that are in Chapel Hill Township, Orange County, Amber Wood <br />Run takes access from Booth Road, which extends as SR 1531 south of the Orange/Chatham <br />County Line to US 15-501 South. Amber Wood Run is located in Price Creek Estates, a 21-lot <br />subdivision in Chatham County with portions of two of the lots extending into Orange County. The <br />Orange County Board of Commissioners approved the preliminary plat for the northern portions of <br />two lots in Price Creek Estates in November 1998. Price Creek Estates was approved as a major <br />subdivision in Orange County because of the 0.03-mile portion of Amber Wood Run, which was <br />dedicated as a public road. <br />NCDOT has investigated the request (please refer to attached Secondary Road Addition Report), <br />and has submitted the petition to the Board of Commissioners for its review and approval. The <br />Board must take an administrative action to approve the petition to NCDOT in order for NCDOT to <br />add the 0.05-mile portion of Booth Road and 0.03-mile portion of Amber Wood Run to the State <br />Secondary Road System, and accept maintenance responsibilities for those roads. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no direct financial impact associated with this item. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the request to add <br />Booth Road (0.05-mile) and Amber Wood Run (0.03-mile) to the State Secondary Road System.
