Article 5: Uses <br /> Section 5.1: Establishment of Use Regulations <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Orange County, North Carolina – Unified Development Ordinance Page 5-4 <br /> <br />(dd) Sawmills, <br />(ee) Stables, Commercial <br />(ff) Stockyards / Livestock Markets, <br />(gg) Storage of Goods, Outdoor, <br />(hh) Waste Management Facility; Hazardous & Toxic, and <br />(ii) Wholesale Sales. <br /> <br />5.1.4 Key to Permitted Use Table 4 <br />(A) An aestrick (*) indicates the use is permitted by right within the district with no additional <br />use standards. <br />(B) A delta (∆) indicates the use is permitted by right within the district but is subject to <br />additional use standards. <br /> A plus sign (+) indicates the use is permitted as a secondary use in accordance with <br />Section ____ of this Ordinance. <br />(C) An ‘A’ or ‘B’ Indicates that the use requires the issuance of a Special Use Permit by either <br />the Board of Adjustment (B) or the County Commissioners (A) in accordance with Section <br />2.7 of this Ordinance. <br />(D) A ‘C’ indicates the the use requires the issuance of a Conditional Use Permit in <br />accordance with Section 2.9 of this Ordinance. <br />(E) A tilde ‘~’ indicates the use may not be permitted as a Conditional Use District. For more <br />information please refer to Section 5.1.4(E) of this Ordinance. <br />(F) A caret ‘^’ denotes identified use can be developed, even if there is an existing principal <br />use, on a bona fide farm. For more information please refer to Section 6.2.5 of this <br />Ordinance. <br />An exclamation mark ‘!’ indicates the use is required to abide by additional submittal and <br />development standards as detailed within this Section. 5 <br />(G) A box with no marking(s) indicates the use is not permitted within the identified district.6 <br /> <br />4 Information on what these symbols refer to is currently listed in the various tables.  Staff is creating a central  <br />location for this information.  <br />5 Staff has originally intended to provide multiple symbols to address land uses having to abide by additional  <br />development standards.  While it served a purpose it was also deemed to be too confusing.  Staff modified this  <br />section and the table in general using the delta Δ to signify land uses requiring adherence to additional  <br />development standards/criteria.  <br />6 Language added to clarify what a unmarked box within the table of permitted uses signifies, specifically the land  <br />use is not permitted in the general use zoning district.  <br /> 170
