AGENCY INFORMATION (Be Very Brief and Concise) <br /> <br />Please provide the following information about your agency: <br /> <br />a) Years in Operation, Date of Incorporation: 8 years in operation, 9/2010 <br /> <br />b) Agency’s Purpose/Mission: <br /> <br />Farmer Foodshare connects people who grow food with people who need food in ways <br />that are economically sustainable and socially just. We believe that everyone has a <br />right to healthy, fresh food, and that farmers deserve to make a fair wage – a system <br />where everybody wins. <br /> <br />c) Types of Services the Agency Provides: <br /> <br />• Offers hunger and malnutrition relief • Provides access to fresh, healthy food for community members in need who <br />would otherwise receive filling, but less healthy, highly processed, shelf -stable <br />food • Supports the local farm economy for small farmers at a fair price • Provides reliable markets for local farmers • Connects local agencies with local farmers • Empowers recipients to make healthier food decisions <br /> <br />d) Agency’s History with Providing These Services: <br /> <br />Since our inception, we have collaborated with farmers, community members, and <br />hunger relief agencies in order to build a healthy, sustainable food system in Orange <br />County. These community partnerships are essential to the successful performance <br />of Farmer Foodshare operations and the execution of its mission. We believe that <br />change happens through relationship building and community engagement. <br /> <br />e) Other Pertinent Agency Information <br /> <br />We hired a new volunteer coordinator, Allysan Scatterday, to oversee day-to-day <br />operations of the Donation Station program. With funding from Orange County and <br />the Towns of Carrboro and Chapel Hill, we successfully piloted a new Community <br />Foodshare initiative in Orange County in partnership with Refugee Community <br />Partnership and Transplanting Traditions.
