27 <br /> <br /> Goal 6: Affirmatively further fair housing, promote fair <br />housing choice and improve community wide <br />knowledge and awareness of the Fair Housing Act, <br />related laws, regulations, and requirements throughout <br />the County. <br /> <br />Strategies Action/Recommendation <br /> <br />6.1: Improve the public’s, landlords’, realtors’, bankers’ and <br />other lenders’, and local officials’ knowledge and awareness <br />of the Fair Housing Act, related laws, regulations, and <br />requirements to affirmatively further fair housing in the <br />community. <br /> <br />6.2: Strive for better intergovernmental cooperation <br />between Federal and State partners, County, local officials, <br />as well as community groups, to effectively identify and <br />address potential barriers to affordable housing choice in <br />the Orange County Consortium Area. <br /> <br />6.4: Educate and promote that all residents have a right to <br />live outside impacted areas. <br /> <br />6.5: Require all public, private, and non-profit housing <br />developers to abide by provisions of the Fair Housing Act in <br />the development of housing in Orange County. <br /> <br />6.6: The County Planning Department should monitor, <br />review and revise within the limits of state statutes the local <br />zoning ordinances as applicable to assure compliance with <br />the Fair Housing Act. <br />A23: Continue to strengthen educational <br />and outreach programs so all persons will <br />become aware of their rights under the Fair <br />Housing Act and the County’s Human <br />Relations Ordinance and raise community <br />awareness and implementation to address <br />the full meaning of affirmatively further fair <br />housing choice, especially for low-income <br />residents, minorities and the disabled <br />population. <br /> 142
