Article 6: Development Standards <br /> Section 6.12: Signs <br /> <br /> <br />Orange County, North Carolina – Unified Development Ordinance Page 6-94 <br /> <br />(4) A land use that utilizes such a sign shall also be permitted an independent <br />speaker box, no greater than 12 square feet in area with a height no greater that <br />four feet. <br />6.12.13 Sign Standards for Specific Uses <br />In addition to the requirements contained herein, the following land uses shall adhere to these <br />additional standards: <br /> Subdivisions, Multi-family Developments, Mobile Home Parks, and Schools <br /> Regardless of its location, land uses shall have a cumulative sign allotment of <br />144 square feet further restricted as follows: <br /> Freestanding or ground monument signage shall not exceed 32 square <br />feet in area. <br /> Ground monument signage shall not exceed six feet in height from <br />finished grade. Freestanding signage shall comply with the height <br />requirements as detailed herein. <br /> For subdivisions and multi-family developments, there shall be a limit of <br />2 freestanding or ground monument sign(s) at each point of <br />ingress/egress. <br /> For all other uses 1 freestanding or ground monument sign shall be <br />permitted. <br /> All other signage shall not exceed 12 square feet in area <br /> Churches <br /> Regardless of its location, a church shall have a cumulative sign allotment of 144 <br />square feet further restricted as follows: <br /> There shall be a limit to one freestanding and one changeable copy sign <br />per property each limited to 32 square feet in area. <br /> Wall signs shall be limited to 32 square feet in area. <br /> All other signage shall be limited to 12 square feet in area. <br />(A) Special Event Displays36 <br />(1) Shall only be allowed within a non-residential zoning district.37 <br />(2) Signs shall not exceed 32 square feet in area. <br />(3) All displays must be located outside of public or private rights-of-way and have <br />approval of property owners when located on private property. <br />(4) Pennants <br />(a) Pennants may be displayed during the special event to attract attention <br />but only within 30 feet of the principal area where the special event is <br />occurring. <br />(b) Pennants must be installed at a minimum height of 18 feet above grade <br />to ensure adequate height clearance for vehicles underneath. <br />(5) Portable Signs <br />(a) Sites shall be limited to one portable sign per right-of-way frontage. <br />However, there shall be no more than two portable signs permitted on- <br />site at one time. <br /> <br />36 Originally located in Section 6.12.11 and moved here.  <br />37 Staff has added the provision to avoid having special event displays in residential districts.  <br /> 48
