Article 10: Definitions <br /> Section 10.1: Definitions <br /> <br />Orange County, North Carolina – Unified Development Ordinance Page 10-45 <br /> <br />Sign, Roof <br /> <br />A sign, or any portion thereof, erected, <br />constructed, or projecting upon or over the roof <br />or parapet wall of any building whether the <br />principal support for the sign is on the roof, <br />wall, or any other structural element of the <br />building. Where a building has more than one <br />roofline, the roofline shall be considered to be <br />highest roofline located directly behind the <br />sign, as viewed from the business frontage. <br /> <br />Sign, Scrolling Display <br />The vertical, horizontal, flashing, or intermittent movement of a static message or display on an electronic <br />changeable message sign. <br />Sign, Snipe <br />Any sign of any size, made of any material, including paper, cardboard, wood, vinyl, and metal, when <br />such sign is tacked, nailed, posted, pasted, glued or otherwise attached to a tree, utility pole, fence, <br />existing sign, other similar object or is placed directly into the ground, and the advertising matter <br />appearing thereon is not applicable to the premises upon which said sign is located. Also includes any <br />sign installed without permission of the owner of the property upon which the sign is located. Snipe signs <br />primarily advertise services, location of off-site developments or homes for sale, or other similar activities. <br />Snipe signs are not permitted in Orange County. <br /> Examples of snipe signs include: <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> 52 52
