Article 10: Definitions <br /> Section 10.1: Definitions <br /> <br />Orange County, North Carolina – Unified Development Ordinance Page 10-44 <br /> <br />Sign Owner <br />A person recorded as such on official records. The owner of property on which a sign is located is <br />presumed to be the owner of the sign unless facts to the contrary are officially recorded or otherwise <br />brought to the attention of the Planning Director (e.g., a sign leased from a sign company). <br />Sign, Pole <br />A sign that is elevated above the ground by one or more upright supports placed upon the ground and not <br />attached to any part of a building. <br />Sign, Political <br />For the purposes of this Ordinance, a sign used in connection with a local, state, or national election or <br />referendum. <br />Sign, Portable <br />An example of a portable sign: <br /> <br />A sign that is mobile and that may or may not have wheels. <br />Portable signs advertise services offered by a non-residential <br />operation on the parcel of property on which they are located. <br /> <br />Sign Prohibited <br />A sign that is not permitted by the sign provisions contained in this Ordinance. <br />Sign, Projecting <br />A sign that is attached to a building wall and <br />extending perpendicular to, or approximately <br />perpendicular to, the building wall and 12 inches or <br />more beyond the face of the building wall. <br /> <br /> <br />Sign, Real Estate <br />A sign that is used to offer for sale, <br />lease, or rent the property upon which <br />the sign is placed. <br /> Examples of real estate signs include: <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> 51 51
