Article 10: Definitions <br /> Section 10.1: Definitions <br /> <br />Orange County, North Carolina – Unified Development Ordinance Page 10-42 <br /> <br />Sign, Identification <br />A sign whose copy is limited to the name and address of a <br />building, institution, development, community name, or <br />person. This definition shall include signs identifying names <br />of residential subdivisions, school sites, <br />apartment/condominium developments, business/industrial <br />parks, and other similar uses. Identification Signs can <br />contain logos, art work, mascots, renderings, and other <br />graphic representations designed to accentuate the <br />advertisement. <br /> An example of identification sign includes: <br /> <br />Sign, Illegal <br />A sign that does not meet the requirements of this Ordinance and which has not received legal non- <br />conforming status and which does not have permit authorization, if required, under the terms of previous <br />ordinances. <br />Sign, Illuminated <br />A sign illuminated in any manner by an artificial light source. <br />Sign, Indirectly Illuminated <br />A sign that is lighted by a light source not seen directly. <br />Sign, Inflatable <br />A sign that is inflated to take on a specific <br />shape or figure that is utilized to attract <br />attention to a business event or location, <br />special event, or parcel of property for <br />commercial purposes. Inflatable signs are <br />commonly utilized to announce special <br />sales or events. As per the Orange County <br />Sign Ordinance, Inflatable Signs shall be <br />prohibited throughout the County. Any <br />individual erecting an inflatable sign shall be <br />subject to an immediate notice of violation <br />and be required to remove the sign within <br />the time it would normally take to deflate the <br />sign. <br /> Examples of inflatable signs include: <br />Sign, Internally Illuminated <br />A sign whose light source is concealed or contained within the sign itself, and which becomes visible in <br />darkness by shining through a translucent surface. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> 49 49
