Article 10: Definitions <br /> Section 10.1: Definitions <br /> <br />Orange County, North Carolina – Unified Development Ordinance Page 10-41 <br /> <br />Sign, Flashing <br />A sign on which any portion of it changes light, intensity, switches on and off in a constant pattern, or <br />contains moving parts or the optical illusion of motion caused by use of electrical energy or illumination. <br />Sign, Government <br />Any sign erected and maintained by a municipal, County, State, or Federal government for traffic direction <br />or for designation of or direction to any school, park, hospital, historic site, or public service, property or <br />facility. <br />Sign, Ground; Monument Sign <br />A sign supported on the ground by pillars, posts, <br />masonry wall, or other similar approved structure <br />erected on the ground, and not attached to any part of a <br />building. <br /> <br /> <br />Sign, Hazardous Identification/Notification <br />A sign designed to provide essential public safety <br />information concerning the storage or hazardous materials <br />on a parcel of property. There shall be no limit on the <br />number of signs that are erected for this purpose so long as <br />the signs do not contain commercial advertising material, <br />company logos or names. <br /> <br /> <br />Sign Height <br />The vertical distance measured from <br />the top of the sign, including any <br />supporting structure, frame, or <br />architectural feature, to the grade of <br />the land at the base of the sign or the <br />grade level of the adjacent right-of- <br />way providing access, whichever is <br />less. <br /> Example of how height shall be <br />determined: <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> 48 48
