Article 6: Development Standards <br /> Section 6.12: Signs <br /> <br /> <br />Orange County, North Carolina – Unified Development Ordinance Page 6-93 <br /> <br />(b) Ground mounument signage shall not exceed six feet in height from <br />finished grade. Freestanding signage shall comply with the height <br />requirements as detailed herein. <br />(c) For subdivisions and multi-family developments, there shall be a limit of <br />2 freestanding or ground monument sign(s) at each point of <br />ingress/egress. <br />(d) For all other uses 1 freestanding or ground monument sign shall be <br />permitted. <br />(e) All other signage shall not exceed 12 square feet in area <br />(B) Churches <br />(1) Regardless of its location, a church shall have a cumulative sign allotment of 120 <br />square feet further restricted as follows: <br />(a) There shall be a limit to one freestanding and one changeable copy sign <br />per property each limited to 32 square feet in area. <br />(b) Wall signs shall be limited to 32 square feet in area. <br />(c) All other signage shall be limited to 12 square feet in area. <br />(C) Special Event Displays26 <br />(1) Shall only be allowed within a non-residential zoning district.27 <br />(2) Signs shall not exceed 32 square feet in area. <br />(3) All displays must be located outside of public or private rights-of-way and have <br />approval of property owners when located on private property. <br />(4) Pennants <br />(a) Pennants may be displayed during the special event to attract attention <br />but only within 30 feet of the principal area where the special event is <br />occurring. <br />(b) Pennants must be installed at a minimum height of 18 feet above grade <br />to ensure adequate height clearance for vehicles underneath. <br />(5) Portable Signs <br />(a) Sites shall be limited to one portable sign per right-of-way frontage. <br />However, there shall be no more than two portable signs permitted on- <br />site at one time. <br />(b) Signs shall be limited to 16 square feet in area, per sign face. <br />(c) Signs shall be located in accordance with Section 6.12.3(F). <br />(6) Inflatable Signs <br />(a) No more than one inflatable sign shall be permitted on-site at one time. <br />(b) Inflatable signs shall not exceed 25 feet in height. <br />(c) Signs shall be located a minimum of 25 feet from all property lines. <br />(7) Special Event Displays may only be erected for a two week period and must be <br />removed within five days following the event. <br /> <br />(A) Changeable Copy Signs Utilized by Churches or Public Entities 28 <br /> <br />26 Originally located in Section 6.12.11 and moved here. <br />27 Staff has added the provision to avoid having special event displays in residential districts. <br /> 36 36
