Article 6: Development Standards <br /> Section 6.12: Signs <br /> <br /> <br />Orange County, North Carolina – Unified Development Ordinance Page 6-87 <br /> <br />(1) Shall not exceed 24 square feet in area, per sign; <br />(2) May not to exceed two signs per building site; <br />(3) Signs shall be erected only after a Building Permit authorizing construction on- <br />site has been issued; and <br />(4) Signs must be removed within seven days after construction work has been <br />completed and the certificate of occupancy has been issued. <br />(G) Directional/Informational Signs <br />(1) May be displayed on parcels of property utilized for non-residential purposes. <br />(2) May not exceed two square feet in area. <br />(3) May contain corporate logos or other similar graphical displays so long as they <br />provide some necessary information to patrons (i.e. entrance and exit locations, <br />one-way entrance ways, drive through entranceways, ATM location, etc.). <br />(4) A maximum of three directional/informational signs may be displayed on a non- <br />residential parcel of property. <br />(H) Temporary Real Estate Signs, in excess of four square feet in area <br />(1) One sign shall be permitted per building site, not to exceed 24 square feet in <br />area. <br />(2) Signs shall not be placed within any public street right-of-way. <br />(3) Signs must be removed after property has been transferred. <br />(I) Landmark Signs <br />Signs shall be erected only after the historical significance of the particular site has been <br />verified and that proposed location of the sign has been approved by the Orange County <br />Planning Department and all other related agencies (i.e. NC Department of <br />Transportation). <br />6.12.12 Signs Permitted in Specific Non-Residential Zoning Districts <br />The following signs cumulative sign alottments shall be permitted within the zoning districts <br />indicated, in accordance with all other provisions of this Section and specific standards for each <br />sign established herein: <br />(A) Table of Allowable Sign Area – Nonresidential Land Uses <br /> LC-1, NC-2, <br />EC-5, E-I <br />CC-3, GC-4, <br />I1, <br />EDB-1, EDE- <br />1, REDA-CZ <br /> <br />OI, 1-2, <br />1-3, AS, <br />ASE-CZ <br />EDB-2, <br />EDE-2, <br />MPD-CZ <br />EDH-1, <br />EDH-2, <br />EDH-3 <br />EDH-4, <br />EDH-5 <br /> Cumulative <br />Allowable Sign <br />Area Per <br />Parcel <br />140 square <br />feet <br />200 square <br />feet <br />240 <br />square <br />feet <br />300 <br />square <br />feet <br />160 square <br />feet <br />200 <br />square <br />feet <br /> <br />(A)(B) On-Premise Commercial Specific Signs Standards <br />(1) Freestanding or Ground Monument Signs <br />(2)(a) These signs sShall comply with all state and county building codes and <br />the National Electric Code.
