3—10 <br />Little River Regional Park - 301 Little River Park Way, Rougemont <br />Overview: <br />The Little River Regional Park and Natural Area was established through a unique partnership that resulted in <br />the protectfon of 391 acres with abundant natural and cultural resources. The park provides a wide variety of <br />outdoor recreatfon opportunitfes while protectfng much of the natural and rural character of the land. The <br />park is owned jointly by Durham and Orange countfes, with portfons of the property situated in both jurisdic- <br />tfons. Visitors can enjoy the natural beauty of the area by hiking and biking over 14 miles of trails built by <br />volunteers and staff. Several historic structures from the former tobacco farm have been restored for use as <br />park amenitfes, including a corn crib, pack house, and 1,000-stfck flue-cured tobacco barn. Since the park <br />opened in December 2004 the annual visitatfon has increased from 24,000 to 35,000. The park hosts the <br />annual Little River Trail Run (7K and 10-mile races), as well as astronomy nights, bird counts, and a wide variety <br />of environmental programs. <br /> <br />Location / Users: <br />Little River Regional Park and Natural Area straddles the Orange/Durham county line and is located approxi- <br />mately 12 miles northwest of the City of Durham and 10 miles northeast of Hillsborough.
