3—1
Orange County Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan
CHAPTER 3 - Park Inventory / Assessment

Park Inventory and Assessment

Introduction: Orange County residents and visitors have benefitted from bond referenda approved by voters
in 1997 and 2001. These bonds provided $20.6 million for the purchase and preservatfon of land and the
development of Parks, Recreatfon and Open Space facilitfes. Of this, $13.5 million was dedicated to use with-
in Orange County jurisdictfon. The remainder was provided for the municipalitfes. More than $2 million in
grant funding has been received for Orange County and partner projects, and additfonal millions of dollars in
funding from alternatfve sources have also been used. Between 2000 and 2011 the majority of this funding
has been put to use in the purchase of property and the development of the propertfes identffied on the map
and described within this chapter. Efland-Cheeks and Central Recreatfon community centers were already in
place, but improvements and expansions were made to the facilitfes. Currently more than 1,500 acres of
publicly-held and protected land is included within the Orange County park and preserve inventory. More
than one million people are welcomed each year into Orange County Parks and Recreatfon facilitfes.
Orange County
Parks and Preserves
3
31
