Economic development projects in other appropriate <br />areas should have a similar approval process. <br />Significant amendments pertaining economic development were <br />adopted on February 7, 2012. Staff recommends waiting to re-evaluate <br />the process until after a project has been processed under the revised <br />regulations. <br />8. <br />Economic development approval processes and standards should <br />be revised by local business and planning professionals in <br />conjunction with UNC’s Planning, Business and Law Schools. <br />Significant amendments pertaining economic development were <br />adopted on February 7, 2012. Staff recommends waiting to re-evaluate <br />the process until after a project has been processed under the revised <br />regulations. <br />9. <br />An Economic Development Workgroup consisting of the BOCC, <br />Planning Board and Economic Development Commission should <br />meet Spring/Summer 2011 to examine expediting approval, <br />targeting industries, permitted uses, specialized zoning district by <br />SAP subarea and revised standards. <br />Significant amendments pertaining economic development were <br />adopted on February 7, 2012. Staff recommends waiting to re-evaluate <br />the process until after a project has been processed under the revised <br />regulations. <br />10. <br />Agricultural Support Enterprises/Rural Economic Development <br />Area, Speedway Small Area Plan and Transit Oriented <br />Development are important initiatives using Conditional Use <br />District structures should be important 2011 BOCC goals. <br />As noted in #2, research regarding the need for Agricultural Support <br />Enterprises needs to be done. It is possible that changes of State <br />legislation regarding "bonafide farms" may have negated the need for a <br />special program. A REDA conditional district was adopted on June 5, <br />2012. TOD will need to be looked at in the future (see "Environmental <br />Ideas" above). <br />11. <br />Examine Durham’s American Tobacco Campus and American <br />Underground to create an Orange County campus that is walk- <br />able, diverse and attractive for mixed use including affordable <br />space for Incubation and Startup businesses. <br />12.Different landscaping standards may be needed for EDDs. <br />Some changes were made as part of the amendments adopted on <br />February 7, 2012. Staff recommends waiting to re-evaluate the <br />standards until after a project has been processed under the revised <br />regulations. <br />65
