<br />Implementation Bridge Report - 13 - <br />  <br />Environmental Ideas <br />Ideas were offered during the UDO review process that suggest additional attention to  <br />regulatory provisions aimed at environmental protection and preservation.   <br />Relevant Comprehensive Plan Provisions  <br />General Natural and Cultural Systems Goal:  The goal is to provide a network of  <br />protection for natural, cultural, and agricultural lands, protecting natural areas, prime  <br />forests, and wildlife habitats.  Preservation of working farms is a key theme, along with  <br />protection of historical character.  Energy efficiency and use of alternative fuel and  <br />power generation options are encouraged.    <br />  <br />Land Use Goal–2:  Land uses that are appropriate to on‐site environmental conditions  <br />and features, and that protect natural resources, cultural resources, and community  <br />character.   <br />  <br />Natural and Cultural Systems Goal–4:  Preservation of historic, cultural, architectural  <br />and archaeological resources, and their associated landscapes.  <br />  <br />There was strong support during the process particularly for consideration of regulatory  <br />provisions related to stormwater management, water quality, and transportation.   <br />Stormwater Management and Groundwater  <br />• Revise definitions and references to wastewater treatment systems to  <br />avoid opening possibilities for extension of sewer service into areas where  <br />the Land Use Plan contemplates no public sewer service.  <br />• Consider criteria for locations of sampling stations under the Pollutant  <br />Monitoring Program.  <br />• Consider establishing a mechanism for nutrient trading.  <br />Transportation  <br />• Adjust Section 7.8.2 to encourage roads to be laid out in a manner that  <br />avoids significant natural features.   <br />• Develop guidelines for Transit Oriented Development.  <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />38
