This is zoned correctly. Folks keep talking about this rural buffer like it supposed to <br />protect the city from the country. Kennels have always been a rural activity, always. Traditionally, kennels belong in the <br />country and because the city is encroaching on the country, people build little neighborhoods and they act as though raising <br />cattle, which is what this placed used to be is a cattle farm, there is still a pump down at the creek where they pumped water <br />out to feed the cattle. This is the country. I did my homework. I found out what it was zoned. I found out that this <br />appropriate place to put a kennel based on the ordinance. I then talked to some experts and said how can we make a <br />building that will be appropriate for this part of the country, this near town? I think that is due diligence. <br /> <br />Rob Maitland: Well, there is no doubt, and to the surprise to many, that a dog kennel is a permitted use …. <br /> <br />Gene Lonsway: Sir, riding stables need to be in the country, yet near enough to town so the customers can … <br /> <br />Rob Maitland: And I bet you it wouldn’t be here if we were talking about horses. <br /> <br />Gene Lonsway: the ordinance is the same. A Class B Special Use Permit puts them both together. <br /> <br />Rob Maitland: To get that permit, you have to meet certain requirements. <br /> <br />Gene Lonsway: I believe we have. <br /> <br />Rob Maitland: A lot of these requirements rely on you to comply with the plans we have talked about tonight, you are going <br />to do all these things and I am pointing out here that I am asking you some pretty basic questions and already in the three or <br />four minutes I have been asking the questions you haven’t given me a straight answer. I ask you when you bought the <br />property, you told me two years again and it is not even six months ago. <br /> <br />Gene Lonsway: You can also ask me when I got married to my wife and that was about a year and one half ago. I am pretty <br />close on that one I suspect. <br /> <br />Rob Maitland: She didn’t sign the applications by the way but I am going to let you slide on that. And you didn’t have a <br />license for business… <br /> <br />Gene Lonsway: Which isn’t required. <br /> <br />Rob Maitland: Which you are not required to do. That is fine. I guess the other question I wanted to ask you was what <br />hours do you plan to operate? <br /> <br />Gene Lonsway: It is not ascertained yet. I suspect something like 8:30 to 5:30 Monday through Friday. A little bit later like <br />9:00 to 1:00 on Saturday and maybe Sunday I’ll pick up and drop off in the afternoon. <br /> <br />Rob Maitland: You would be willing to stipulate that as part of ….. <br /> <br />Gene Lonsway: I told you I am not that far in my planning yet. <br /> <br />Rob Maitland: My concern is there is nothing here that would prevent you from running your dogs out in the middle of the <br />night. <br />
