Approved 12/12/16
OC Board of Adjustment – 10/10/16 Page 55 of 113

Kara Brewer: That’s correct. That’s why the barn is a barn. It’s big open space. It’s very flexible and can 1
accommodate us as we scale up. 2
3
LeAnne Brown: How many square feet is your barn? 4
5
Kara Brewer: Approximately 4,200 square feet. 6
7
LeAnne Brown: How much square footage do you need to store the flowers you anticipate growing from 8
your thousand bulbs and (inaudible)? 9
10
Kara Brewer: We’re going to need quite a bit of space. And again, because it’s such a big wide open space 11
it allows me to set up tables, get in there and divide out the flowers. So, yeah. 12
13
LeAnne Brown: So if on your wedding day you have exclusive use of the farm and all the facilities are you 14
hauling around the flour and crawling around the cuttings, crawling around the buckets, crawling around the 15
farm material or do you move all that out? 16
17
Kara Brewer: I mean if there’s an event then obviously we will work to clean things up and get things out of 18
the barn if that’s what’s being used. 19
20
LeAnne Brown: So when you’re having wedding events then you can’t really be using that barn for any of 21
your farm activities because you have to clear it out to move it for your wedding guests. Is that correct? 22
23
Kara Brewer: During the duration of the event, yes. 24
LeAnne Brown: Where’s all of that stuff go when you’re using the barn for weddings? 25
26
Kara Brewer: I’m just going to have to cram it into different areas. I might have one of the… I mentioned a 27
storage container off to the side; we might have another one where I can put things in. I do have a couple 28
of options for storage that I can add on if I need it later. So again, it’s just a work in progress. We’re going to 29
have to figure that out as we move forward. 30
31
LeAnne Brown: Ms. Brewer, did I understand you correctly or did I misperceive your testimony? Did you 32
testify that Michael Harvey told you which blocks to check on your application for the building permits? 33
34
Kara Brewer: No, Michael Harvey did not. 35
36
LeAnne Brown: I just misunderstood you. Did you testify that Mr. Harvey told you that you were not allowed 37
to mention a farm while you were presenting at your SUP? 38
39
Kara Brewer: He didn’t say I wasn’t allowed. He said that with the SUP that you just had to stay away from 40
farm use, essentially. 41
42
LeAnne Brown: Were you represented by legal council when you were going through the process of the 43
SUP? 44
45
Kara Brewer: Yes, I was. 46
47
LeAnne Brown: Were you also working with an architectural firm that had done a fair amount of this type of 48
work in Orange County? Weren’t you working with Phil Post and Associates? 49
