that the Brewers’ and SPG needed to get, initially in reviewing this proposal, a SUP in order to operate a 1
special event center. Is that Correct? 2
3
Michael Harvey: That is a correct statement. 4
5
Andy Petesch: And in what form did you provide that determination? How’d you communicate that to Ms. 6
Brewer? 7
8
Michael Harvey: Ms. Brewer and the staff had had several different meetings discussing the concepts and it 9
was my determination of what I told her at that point in time based on the information I had available to that 10
what she was proposing was a regulated retreat center requiring the issuance of a Class B SUP in order to 11
develop this on the property. 12
13
Andy Petesch: And so you verbally communicated that information to her? 14
15
Michael Harvey: Yes. 16
17
Andy Petesch: And was there ever a written determination that was sent to her? 18
19
Michael Harvey: No, sir. 20
21
Andy Petesch: Ok thank you. No further questions. 22
23
Barry Katz: Mr. Harvey, can you just say again what you thought they were proposing to do? 24
25
Michael Harvey: As testified to at your last meeting Ms. Brewer had actually come to talk to staff on a 26
couple different occasions prior to the submittal of a Class B SUP on her desire to open a retreat center, a 27
wedding venue specifically. At that point in time we told her the event center she was describing to us, i.e. 28
staff, would require the issuance of a Class B SUP as defined within our UDO. 29
30
Barry Katz: And that’s why we went through this process? 31
32
Michael Harvey: Yes, sir. And as I testified not only at the aforementioned hearing but at your last Board 33
of Adjustment meeting the determination that Ms. Brewer had to go through this process, originally, for this 34
parcel of property was that at the time there was no ag activity on same and that this would be, in fact, the 35
principal use if established. 36
37
Barry Katz: Right. That was our impression. So I wanted to just ask you about your apiary. You have 3 38
beehives on the property. And do you plan on actually extracting the honey on the premises? 39
40
Chris and Kara Brewer: Yes. 41
42
Barry Katz: And does anyone have any notion about how many beehives one would need in order to make 43
a viable business out of processing of honey? 44
45
Chris Brewer: Well we just started out and we have 2 beehives at our house and then we have 3 at the 46
property now so we’re about a year and a half into beehives. So I wouldn’t consider ourselves an expert but 47
83
