MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH <br />DECEMBER 18, 1997 <br />Board of Health 3 December 18, 1997 <br />Transcription completed by Patsy L. Bateman <br /> REVIEW RETREAT REPORT, PRESENTED BY DAN REIMER <br /> The notes distributed in the Board packet for this meeting have been well crafted by Cornelia <br /> Ramsey, Health Education Supervisor. They accurately reflect the flow of the discussion under <br /> the facilitator, William Herzog. <br /> <br />The group at the retreat agreed that the departmental staff review the information from the retreat <br />and give feedback to the Division Directors who will prepare the information for further discussion <br />at the next planning retreat. The Division Directors would like to schedule a follow-up meeting in <br />February to settle the primary directions and plan how they will be implemented into the Health <br />Department operations. <br /> <br /> The motion to approve the Retreat Report was made by Jonathan Klein, seconded by <br /> Barbara Chavious and carried without dissent. <br /> <br /> RECEIVE HUMAN SERVICES ADVISORY COMMISSION FORUM REPORT, PRESENTED BY <br /> DAN REIMER <br /> The HSAC, appointed by the Board of Commissioners, represents governmental and non- <br /> profit human service agencies in Orange County. Each year it conducts a forum on a topical <br /> issue, with this year’s theme being welfare reform. Each forum results in a report with <br /> recommendations for the Board of Commissioners and participating organizations. The report <br /> was included in the Board packet. <br /> <br />8. SEARCH COMMITTEE REPORT - Brenda Crowder-Gaines was not in attendance to give the <br /> Search Committee Report. Report was given by Beverly Foster. The Search Committee met on <br /> December 9, 1997. Elaine Holmes, County Personnel Director, has been very helpful in the <br /> process. A job description for the Health Director has been developed and input survey went out <br /> to health department staff and other county directors. Elaine provided the Committee the results <br /> of this survey. <br /> <br />December 29, 1997 is the deadline for applications. Applications will be reviewed in January and <br />processed through the Personnel Department. <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS - DAN REIMER <br /> A copy of nomination forms were distributed from the Association of North Carolina Boards of <br /> Health for the Carl Durham Award and the Outstanding Board of Health Award. Nominations are <br /> to be submitted to the ANCBH office before December 31, 1997. <br /> <br />9. BOARD COMMENTS <br /> The Board of Health recognized Cleon Currie, who has served a full 9 years as a member of the <br /> Board of Health. The Board presented a plaque to Cleon Currie in appreciation for 9 years of <br /> dedicated service to the Orange County Board of Health, serving as vice-chair in 1990 and 1991 <br /> and serving as chair in 1994 and 1995. <br /> <br /> The Board of Health recognized Dan Reimer, Health Director. Dan has been the Health Director <br /> for Orange County for the past 10 years and will be stepping down from the position of Health <br /> Director on January 2, 1998. The Board of Health presented Dan with a plaque expressing <br /> appreciation. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Barbara Chavious and seconded by Janet Southerland to adjourn the <br />meeting. <br /> <br />The next regular Board of Health meeting will be held January 29, 1998 at the Government Services <br />Building Meeting Room in Hillsborough, N.C. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br />Rosemary L.
