MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH <br />May 31, 2000 <br /> <br /> <br />Board of Health Minutes <br />Transcription completed by Anne Miles Thomas 3 May 31, 2000 <br />were distributed at the meeting for discussion and for each member attending the <br />meeting. <br /> <br />2. Follow-up from April 14 work session <br />The list of priority issues discussed at the April 14 work session was brought to the <br />Board’s attention for discussion. It was suggested that the Board of Health focus on core <br />areas and put these on a future agenda for discussion. This will be done and the list <br />collapsed into broader areas for the next meeting. <br /> <br />3. Legislative Matters <br />The Health Trust Fund relates to the Tobacco Trust Funds allocated to North Carolina. <br />Advocacy of these funds for health purposes was discussed. An e-mail campaign to <br />each of our representatives in support of this legislation is encouraged. <br />The Right to Health Care legislation, sponsored by Verla Insko, provides legislation <br />ensuring every citizen the fundamental right to health care on a regular basis. <br />Healthy Carolinians Legislation is a new bill restoring financial support for Healthy <br />Carolinians. <br /> <br />IV. Board Comments <br /> <br />Rosemary Summers discussed budget issues that have been submitted to the Board of County <br />Commissioners for approval and the course of action needed to promote awareness and <br />improve visibility of the role the Health Department plays in the community. <br /> <br />V. Announcements and Public Comment <br /> <br /> Ron Cammarata announced his upcoming resignation of his Board of Health appointment. <br /> <br />The motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Mel Hurston, seconded by Janet Southerland, <br />and carried without dissent. <br /> <br />The Board of Health meeting adjourned at 9:30 P.M. <br /> <br />The next regular Board of Health meeting will be held on June 22, 2000 at the Government Services <br />Center in Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br /> <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Rosemary L.
