Anne Miles 1 September 27, 2000 <br />ORANGE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT: To enhance the <br />quality of life, promote the health, and preserve the environment for all people in the <br />Orange County community. <br /> <br />THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH MET ON September 27, 2001 at the <br />Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. <br /> <br />BOARD OF HEALTH MEMBERS PRESENT: Jonathan Klein, Chair; Janet Southerland, <br />Vice-Chair; Barry Adler; Mel Hurston; Barry Jacobs; Lee Werley; Kate Wilder; Alice <br />White. <br /> <br />BOARD OF HEALTH MEMBERS ABSENT: Alan Rimer; Martha Stucker; Sharon Van <br />Horn. <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Rosemary Summers, Health Director; Ron Holdway, Environmental <br />Health Services Division Director; Donna King, Health Promotion and Education <br />Division Director. <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: Randa Meehan, UNC-CH student nurse; Julie Skolmanski, UNC- <br />CH MPH student; Erin Fields, UNC-CH MPH student; Gwendolyn L. CALL TO ORDER AND INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS <br /> <br />Jonathan Klein called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. and introduced <br />Christopher Cooke. <br /> <br />II. SOCIAL MARKETING AND PUBLIC HEALTH <br /> <br />A special presentation, "Social Marketing: A Planned Approach to Behavior <br />Change", was given by Christopher Cooke, Turning Point Project Director. <br /> <br />III. APPROVAL OF SEPTEMBER 27, 2001 AGENDA <br /> <br />Motion to approve the Agenda of September 27, 2001 was made by Mel <br />Hurston, seconded by Lee Werley, and carried without dissent. <br /> <br />IV. APPEALS AND HEARINGS <br /> <br />A. Possible Action: Ivey Hearing <br /> <br />James Ivey appealed an authorization for construction of a new septic <br />system denial by the Environmental Health staff. A hearing was held on <br />August 23, 2001. <br /> <br />This item was reviewed by the ACEH Committee on September 13, 2001. <br />The Board of Health has the authority to affirm, modify or reverse the <br />staff decision in the appeal of the authorization denial according to NCGS <br />§ 130A-24. <br />
