MINUTES
ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH
March 22, 2001

Board of Health Minutes
Transcription completed by V. Anne Miles 4 March 22, 2001
planned during this month is intended to bring a positive recognition to the
mission and role of public health.

Motion to forward the proclamation to the Board of Commissioners for their approval at
their April 3 meeting was made by Janet Southerland, seconded by Mel Hurston, and
carried without dissent.

4. Draft Proposal on School Nurse Deployment

A work group composed of representative members from both Boards of
Education, the Board of Health, the Board of Commissioners, and various county
staff members met to discuss the issues surrounding adequate numbers of school
health nurses for both school systems. In general, that work group agreed that a
proposal should be developed that would eventually ensure that every school
would have a full-time nurse available and that new schools should include a
nurse as part of their “core staff.” The Health Director was asked to meet jointly
with the School Superintendents and the County Management staff to further
develop these parameters. That joint meeting occurred on February 28 and as a
result, the draft plan that is attached was developed.

The Board approved the plan as drafted. The plan is scheduled to be presented
to a joint School Board, County Commissioners work session on March 28, 2001.

5.
