Anne Miles 3 March 22, 2001 <br />The Budget Request has also been amended to reflect staffing needs due to state <br />legislation that would require health department staffing for special needs <br />shelters. Also included is the cost to cover temporary relocation of the clinic <br />during renovation of the clinic located in the Whitted Building. <br /> <br />Motion to approve the fee increases as proposed was made by Martha Stucker, seconded <br />by Mel Hurston, and carried without dissent. <br /> <br />Motion to approve the budget amendments as proposed was made by Alan Rimer, seconded <br />by Martha Stucker, and carried without dissent. <br /> <br />D. Items Other <br /> <br />1. Planning for Joint BOCC/BOH Work Session <br /> <br />The joint BOCC/BOH Work Session is a result of a request from the Chair of the <br />Board of Health to more fully present the Strategic Plan for the Health <br />Department. This is scheduled for April 16, 2001 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The <br />agenda for the joint work session was approved and presentation to the <br />commissioners by Board members was discussed. At the previous Board of Health <br />meeting it was agreed that Board members would take major responsibility for <br />presenting high priority items in the long-range plan. <br /> <br />2. Potential Legislative Issues <br /> <br />Rosemary Summers presented legislative bills up before the North Carolina House <br />and Senate that impact public health for the Board’s discussion. These <br />legislative bills can be accessed and tracked through the General Assembly web <br />site at www.ncga.state.nc.us. <br />This is the first step in identifying legislative items the Board wishes to support as <br />a group and develop a plan for this support. <br /> <br />The Board agreed to actively support the following legislation by writing letters <br />by email to our local delegation and soliciting support from colleagues to do the <br />same on the importance of various items: <br /> <br />HB 320 Safe Storage of Firearms <br />HB 627 Intensive Home Visiting Funds <br />HB 566 Medicaid/Breast and Cervical Cancer Coverage <br />HB 563 Funds for NC Health Choice Enrollment <br />HB 391 Funds for Healthy Carolinians <br />Not yet introduced: Funds for Uncompensated Care for non-Medicaid <br />patients <br />SB 541 Family Foster Homes/Springwater Test <br />SB 662 Open Burning <br /> <br />3. Public Health Month Proclamation <br /> <br />Traditionally, April has been designated Public Health Month by the state and the <br />American Public Health Association has designated a week in April as a national <br />recognition of public health.
