MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH <br />September 19, 2002 <br />Board of Health Minutes Transcription completed by V. Anne Miles 3 September 19, 2002 <br />state moves closer to final budget approval. <br /> <br />• Drought Response Planning Update <br /> <br />The department has been involved with other county, state, and federal agencies, <br />and the water suppliers to develop a coordinated public education effort and public <br />information to the drought situation in the county. Donna King presented the <br />information packet that was developed for distribution to raise public awareness <br />and reported actions and goals of the committee. <br /> <br />A web site has been developed for public education and reference regarding water <br />restrictions and links to drought information and other educational resources. <br /> <br />Tip sheets in English and Spanish have been developed that give sources for water <br />saving devices and helpful tips for home and outdoors to conserve water. The <br />environmental health division is working with area restaurants and is distributing a <br />water conservation checklist for their use. The division is mailing and distributing <br />the checklist during inspection visits. <br /> <br />Water suppliers are all stepping up efforts with educational flyers in their water bills <br />and OWASA has provided tent cards with a water conservation message for area <br />hotel rooms to remind guests of water restrictions and that we are in a drought <br />situation. <br /> <br />Low flow devices for county residents are available through the Orange County <br />Cooperative Extension. <br /> <br />Committee members are also looking into possible federal grants and loans for <br />individuals that have a dry well and cannot afford replacement. <br /> <br />• Employee Recognition Breakfast Confirmation <br /> <br />The breakfast to recognize outstanding health department employees is scheduled <br />for October 23 at 7:30 am at Southern Human Services Center. There are seven <br />employees being recognized this year. <br /> <br />• Report from Human Services Advisory Commission Forum <br /> <br />The Orange County Human Services Advisory Commission held its annual <br />community forum September 10 on the topic of abuse to children and adults. <br />Wayne Sherman provided the Board with an update of issues considered to date. <br /> <br />• Comprehensive Land Use Planning Task Force Update <br /> <br />The Comprehensive Land Use Planning Task Force has met several times in the past <br />months. Mel Hurston is the Board’s representative to the Task Force and Alice <br />White is the alternate. Staff also attends those meetings. Moses Carey provided <br />the Board with an update of issues considered by the task force, population growth <br />in the county and water issues. <br />
