MINUTES
ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH
May 23, 2002
Board of Health Minutes Transcription completed by V. Anne Miles 4 May 23, 2002
6. 2002-2003 Pharmacist Contract

The issuance of pharmaceuticals through our clinical and jail health services
necessitates the services of a registered pharmacist. Esther Frey has served as
our contract pharmacist for the past two years, but is moving out of state at the
end of her current contract. Robert Dupuis, Pharm. D., a Clinical Associate
Professor in the Division of Pharmacy Practice at the UNC School of Pharmacy,
has agreed to serve as our next contract pharmacist.

Motion to approve a contract with Robert Dupuis for Pharmacy services was made by
Janet Southerland, seconded by Lee Werley, and carried without dissent.

7. WIC Agreement Renewal

Piedmont Health Services administers the WIC program in Orange County and
provides services to Health Department clients as well as others who qualify for
services. Whitted Human Services Center is one of the locations that WIC staff
provide services from. The Health Department contributes to the delivery of
these services by providing two office spaces, associated utility costs, and
telephones for Piedmont staff, a copier at the Carrboro Community Health
Center so that staff can easily obtain immunization records for the registry, and
$27,000 per year for health department lab costs to provide hematocrits to WIC
clients.

Motion to approve the WIC Agreement was made by Martha Stucker, seconded by Mel
Hurston, and carried without dissent.

VI. Board Comments/Announcements

None

Closed Session Pursuant to G. S. 143-318.11(a)(3) ref: for the purposes of reviewing a draft
of the bioterrorism plan for the county.

Due to time constraints, the Closed Session was not held.

VII. Adjournment

Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Janet Southerland, seconded by Mel
Hurston, and carried without dissent.

The next Board of Health meeting will be held on June 27, 2002 at the Government Services
Center in Hillsborough, North Carolina at 7:00 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Rosemary L. Summers, MPH, DrPH
Health Director
Secretary to the Board
