Request for Resolution on Blue Cross Blue Shield Trust Fund Medicaid Relief

At the Commissioners retreat in February, the Commissioners discussed the
rising cost of Medicaid and its impact on the county budget. Commissioner
Carey requested that a resolution be drafted that advocated for the local share
of Medicaid to be paid from the trust fund that will be created when Blue Cross
and Blue Shield of North Carolina converts to for-profit status. It is estimated
that the trust will have $50 million available annually. Many organizations and
agencies around the state see the Trust Fund as a means to increase access to
health care for residents of the state.
