MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH <br />June 28, 2007 <br />Board of Health Minutes Transcription completed by Anne Miles Cassell 3 <br /> June 28, 2007 <br /> <br />Tim Carey commented that the example given was too complicated and a draft <br />more tailored to Orange County’s specific situation and close working <br />relationship the University be drafted and suggested that the policy be kept to <br />one page in length. <br /> <br />Moses Carey stated that if an issue causes a split second of thought, the Board <br />member should abstain from voting. He also suggested expanding the <br />statement on personal interests to include personal interests of immediate family <br />members. <br /> <br />Chris Harlan asked if there was a difference between an elected Board and a <br />volunteer Board. Moses Carey stated that there was no technical difference. <br /> <br />The Board agreed to move this topic to a later meeting for further discussion. <br />They requested that other health departments be polled for their policies. <br /> <br />C. Board Committee Reports <br /> <br />The two Board of Health sub-committees meet monthly or as needed. <br /> <br />Jim Stefanadis reported that the Clinical and Community Program Committee <br />met and discussed dental policy and the primary care grant. <br /> <br /> <br />Ernie Dodson reported that the Environmental Health, Dental Health and Health <br />Promotion Programs Committee did not meet this month, as there was no <br />outstanding business. <br /> <br />D. Informational Items <br /> <br />Legislative Items: Rosemary Summers reported that House Bill 24 has passed the <br />Senate and will go to the Governor for signature. The bill regulates smoking in or <br />near Public Buildings and will allow policies to ensure Public Buildings are smoke <br />free. <br /> <br />She also reported that the Raw Milk bill is still in committee and recommended <br />Board members to help stop the bill. <br /> <br />Aid to County: There has not been an increase in the amount since 1972. This bill <br />is still alive but has been reduced from $25 M to $1 M. <br /> <br />HIS $: Funds are in the budget now that will allow the state to finish the data <br />system which will replace the Health Information System with a new software <br />system throughout the state.
