Welcome and Introductions <br /> <br />Chris Harlan, Chair, called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. <br /> <br />I. Approval of September 17, 2008 Agenda <br /> <br />The motion to approve the Agenda of September 17, 2008 was made by Matt Vizithum, <br />seconded by Moses Carey, Jr., and carried without dissent. <br /> <br />II. Public Comment for Items NOT on Printed Agenda <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />III. Action Items on CONSENT Agenda <br /> <br />A. Minutes approval of August 28, 2008 meeting. <br /> <br />B. Healthy Carolinians Grant Submission <br /> <br />The grant application to the NC Office of Healthy Carolinians is for $5727. Orange <br />County’s 2007 Community Health Assessment (CHA) shows that while Orange County <br />has great resources and programs in place, children and adults continue to fall short of <br />recommendations for physical activity and healthy eating. In addition, the County’s <br />obesity rates continue to be among the worst in the state. The state funds will be used <br />to implement elements of a comprehensive approach to reduce the obesity problem. <br />These elements are not currently in place in Orange County. These new elements will <br />compliment and support other efforts that are in place in our county, within the <br />preschools, schools, community, hospitals and faith communities. <br /> <br />As a result of these funds, Orange County will have a greater capacity to impact the
