Teen Health Advocates – Tiffany Mackey <br />• In 2012-2013, the Orange County Health Department and Cedar Ridge High School <br />worked together to develop a Teen Health Advocate (THA) program at Cedar Ridge. <br />The Health Department received a $10,000 grant from JBS International, Inc. to <br />implement this as a pilot program at Cedar Ridge and funded the program through <br />the first 9 months. After the first year, plans are to implement the program in the <br />other Orange County High Schools while continuing the program at Cedar Ridge. <br />• The successes, challenges, lessons learned/best practices, evaluation and <br />measureable outcomes were presented, along with a PSA by the Teen Health <br />Advocates from Cedar Ridge High School. <br />E. Substance Abuse Dashboard – Mike Fliss <br />The Substance Abuse and Mental Health dashboard is 2nd in our series of three (3) <br />dashboards, and incorporates changes from last month’s discussion. This <br />represents the next step in our iterative process to create dashboards to <br />communicate and monitor BOH priority health issues. Time was spent discussing <br />the dashboard, and input was sought from the BOH on how to improve it. <br />. <br />VII. Reports and Discussion with Possible Action <br />A. Informational Items <br />a. Health Director’s Report <br />i. OCHD Culture Survey Results <br />1. Noted that 25% of the staff had worked at the Health <br />Department less than 1 year <br />2. Overall results were very favorable with improvements shown <br />for every question. <br />ii. PHield Trip – September 13, 2013 <br />1. Forty-seven (47), first-year Masters of Public Health Students <br />from UNC Chapel Hill attended a “field trip” at the Whitted <br />facility. This PHield Trip was held to educate students on a <br />variety of public health ‘practice pathways’ as they work <br />alongside local practitioners to better understand what public <br />health looks like at the local level. <br />iii. North Carolina Public Health Association (NCPHA) Annual Fall <br />Conference held September 17th-20th, 2013 – Asheville, NC <br />b. BOCC/BOH Joint Meeting – October 8th, 2013 <br />i.
