Draft 2045 MTP Preferred Option <br />PURPOSE: <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: (919) <br />Nishith Trivedi, Transportation Planner, <br />919- 245 -2582 <br />Receive a presentation on the 2045 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) Preferred Option <br />from Orange County Transportation Planning staff and offer any comments. <br />BACKGROUND: The Durham - Chapel Hill - Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization <br />(DCHC MPO) is responsible for long range transportation planning for Durham County and parts <br />of Orange and Chatham Counties and is updating its MTP. The 2045 MTP is a federally <br />required, financially constrained plan that recommends major transportation projects, policies <br />and strategies designed to maintain existing transportation systems and address the region's <br />future travel needs. Projects must be in the 2045 MTP to receive any state and federal <br />transportation funding through the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). <br />Staff is providing this presentation (Attachment 1) now primarily as information but also to allow <br />an opportunity for Board comments. Any comments received will be communicated to the Board <br />of County Commissioners (BOCC) and the MPO Board for its consideration. Commissioner <br />Jacobs is Orange County's representative on the MPO Board with Commissioner Rich as his <br />alternate. <br />On October 3, 2017, the BOCC endorsed the Orange Unified Transportation Board (OUTBoard) <br />comments on the Alternatives Analysis and submitted them to the DCHC MPO Board. The MPO <br />included these comments along with others and drafted the Preferred Option. The MPO <br />Technical Committee released the 2045 MTP Preferred Option for a 42 -day public comment <br />period on October 25th 2017. The MPO Board also conducted a public hearing on the preferred <br />option on November 8th 2017.
