County. On Sunday, September 8'" a hike from Momefields into downtown Hillsborough <br />coordinated by the Triangle Pathway Association would occur. The Colonial Guides <br />would offer tours of historic downtown. At 4 P.M. the Hillsborough Historic Society <br />would feature Dr. Harr' Watson, a noted historian, speaking on the history of Orange <br />County. On Monday, September 9's. at 12 o'clock noon, a ceremony would be held at the <br />old Orange County Courthouse with ringing of bells throughout Orange County. <br />Ms. Reid also announced that banners displaying the official Orange County 250" <br />Anniversary logo would be placed in Hillsborough, Carrboro, and Chapel Hill for varying <br />lengths of time. Donations made by area businesses made the banners possible. The final <br />event for the yearlong celebration was tentatively slated to be an old fashion county fair in <br />September 2003. <br />Ms. Davis then recognized Mr. Blake who gave a brief overview on the policy regarding <br />the display of brochures in the visitors center. It was established that brochures and <br />publications for Orange County visitor industry businesses would be on display in the <br />center. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Ms. Davis again recognized Mr. Blake who had a request for permission to act from the <br />Board. In an effort to encourage ease of access and usage of the visitors center, Mr. <br />Blake felt it was important that parking be available for visitors immediately in front of <br />501 West Franklin. He wanted the Board's feedback before approaching the Toren of <br />Chapel Hill to discuss the possibility of time- lhnited spaces. After a brief discussion Board <br />Members agreed and approved the request for Mr. Blake to speak with the Town of <br />Chapel Hill regarding the matter of time - limited, designation visitor parking in front of 501 <br />West Franklin. <br />Mr. Blake spoke to Board Members about pricing Visitors Bureau publications for sale to <br />businesses outside of Orange County. This matter had been one that had come up during <br />various discussions over the years but no action had been taken. Mr. Blake mentioned <br />that he was bringing the matter forward so that visitor center staff would have clear <br />direction for bulk requests by out -of- county for -profit businesses. A sheet with various <br />pricing levels was provided for referral and discussion. Subsequent discussion regarding <br />the sale of Visitors Bureau publications to businesses outside Orange County raised <br />various concerns and questions from the Board members. A motion was made by Mr. <br />Carey to table the subject until additional information and feedback were obtained Mr. <br />Walters seconded the motion All Board Members were in agreement and the matter was <br />tabled. <br />Other Matters of the Board and Announcements <br />Mr. Sam Hobgood expressed concern about the conservation of water in Orange County <br />and mentioned his awareness of conservation efforts by lodging establishments in other <br />
