NCDENR Division of Coastal Management maintains the following data sets distributed by county: an <br />inventory and classification of Wetland Types for North Carolina coastal area, an inventory of Potential <br />Wetland Restoration and Enhancement sites in coastal North Carolina, and the North Carolina Coastal <br />Region Evaluation of Wetland Significance (NC- CREWS) layer, a watershed based GIS wetland functional <br />assessment model. <br />http: / /dcm2.enr. state .nc.us /Wetlands /download.htm <br />The USFWS National Wetlands Inventory provides a series of topical maps to show wetlands and deepwater <br />habitats. http: / /www.fws.gov /wetlands /Data /DataDownload.html <br />Stewardship and Land Conservation <br />The North Carolina GAP Stewardship layer assigns a status rating to lands in North Carolina deemed to <br />offer permanent protection to biodiversity. These status levels are based on the degree to which biodiversity is <br />protected on the sites. Additionally, the protected areas are further identified by ownership and stewardship <br />entities for each site. The time period for this data layer is 1994 -1998. Data are available for download at <br />http:/ /www.basic.ncsu.edu /ncg_al2 <br />There are two national inventories ofprotected areas: <br />The Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD -US) is a GIS database hosted by the USGS Gap <br />Analysis Program that illustrates and describes public land ownership, management and conservation lands <br />nationally, including voluntarily provided privately protected areas. Version 1.1 of this data set was released by <br />GAP in May 2010 and can be downloaded from the USGS PAD -US web site. http: / /gal2analysis.nbii.gov/ <br />PADUS <br />PAD -US (CBI Edition) was published in May 2010, by the Conservation Biology Institute. PAD -US <br />1.1 (CBI Edition) is freely available for download from the Data Basin Protected Areas Center in multiple <br />formats.
