Page 2 of 3 Joseph Parrish <br />Supplemental Questions: <br />Orange County Planning Board (REQUIRES DISCLOSURE STATEMENT) <br />Background, education and experience relevant to this board: <br />I am a former member of the NC National Guard and a graduate of UNC with a degree in <br />political science. I have been a frequent attendant of a variety of local government <br />meetings/functions and even ran for office in the state legislature in the November elections. <br />Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: <br />I want to have a hand in public service, either professionally or as a volunteer. I see this board <br />as an opportunity to serve the public and as a learning opportunity that can inform my public <br />service in the future. <br />Conflict of Interest: <br />Chapel Hill Board of Adjustment <br />Background, education and experience relevant to this board: <br />I am a former member of the NC National Guard and a graduate of UNC with a degree in <br />political science. If appointed, I hope to help guide the community along a <br />thriving path for future success. <br />What unique perspective can you bring to the Orange County Planning Board? <br />Being a young, but relevantly educated resident, I have a strong sense of the years to come and <br />the need for good, long-term planning. <br />Furthermore, utilizing the strategic thinking methods handed down to me in my military <br />education, I find it easy to look at issues and break them down into basic ideas for effective <br />planning and communication to others. <br />What do you consider to be be the most important issues facing Orange County related <br />to growth? <br />37
