Attachment 7 <br />ORANGE COUNTY <br />DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT, AGRICULTURE, <br />PARKS AND RECREATION <br />MEMORANDUM <br />To: Commission for the Environment <br />From: Rich Shaw <br />Date: June 8, 2016 <br />Subject: Comprehensive Conservation Plan for Orange, Durham, and Chatham Counties <br />At your May meeting I presented information about a collaborative effort by several land <br />conservation entities to develop a comprehensive conservation plan for Orange, Durham, and <br />Chatham counties. The idea for developing such a plan for Orange County was recommended <br />by CFE members several years ago, and was also included as a recommendation in the Orange <br />County Comprehensive Plan (2008), and recent State of the Environment report. <br />The group is currently identifying potential funding sources, including the NC Wildlife <br />Resources Commission (NC WRC) that offers grant funds for projects that help protect <br />important wildlife habitat and travel corridors. <br />Attached is a pre - proposal that we submitted May 31 to the NC WRC's Partners for Green <br />Growth, requesting $10,000 for help jump start this project. I intend to secure matching funds <br />from Orange County. We hope this project is selected for an invitation to submit a full proposal. <br />We plan to involve the CFE Land Resources Committee in the project, but other CFE members <br />are also welcome.
