Duke Forest Deer Managei-nent Program .fir c, 2"() "1 <br />p <br />The Office of the Duke Forest is preparing for its eight huraing <br />season through the NC Wildlife Resources Commission Deer <br />Management Assistance Program, Results from the 2015 deer, <br />population survey showed an increase in total deer spotted <br />when compared to 2014, but the number remains well below <br />the high recorded in 2010, The Office will continue to monitor <br />this trend but is confident that hunting is necessary to reduce <br />the negative irripacts of overabundant deer on the Forest, <br />-the 2015 season will begin on September 28th and continue <br />through December 18th. DL,Irir'lg this time, the Durham, <br />Korstian, and Blackwood Divilsions of the Forest will be <br />closed to all public access Monday through Friday, All <br />divisions of the Forest will be open on Sar.urdays arid Sundays <br />and on November 26th avid 27th in observance ofThanksgivivig, <br />Hunting is conducted by two pre-selected groups'- it. is not <br />open to the general public, The Durham and Korstian Divisions <br />will be hunted with bow and arrow only while the Blackwood <br />Division will have both bow arid gun hunting.
