Affordable Housing Advisory Board <br />Minutes of Tuesday, May 13, 2014 <br />Members Present: James Stroud, Diane Beecham, and Vanessa Soleil <br />Members Absent: Arthur Sprinczeles, Nannie Richmond, Jonzella Bailey- Pridham, Sully Jaffer, <br />and Andrew Shannon Patsy Barbee Tammy Jacobs <br />Staff Present: James Davis and Crystal Coble <br />Welcome /Introduction <br />James Davis called the meeting to order. <br />Presentation: Daniel Bullock from the Centre for Homeownership gave a presentation of the <br />Orange Clearing House Network website. He discussed the current status and projected goals of <br />the website. The website is http:// oran�zeclearin�zhousenetwork.or�z. Daniel also gave a brief back <br />ground and update of the Section 8 "task force ". He said that they had three main goals <br />1. Rehousing people that were affected by GSC property owners no longer <br />accepting Section 8 vouchers. <br />2. Rebranding of Section 8 to remove some of the negative stigmas that have <br />become associated with the program and do more community outreach in the <br />hopes to expand the number of landlords and complexes that accept Section 8 <br />Vouchers. <br />3. Talking to government officials to get support to accomplish goals one and two. <br />He also stated that they mailed a letter to the mayors of Carrboro and Chapel Hill and a separate <br />letter the Town Council of Hillsborough, Chapel Hill, Carrboro and to the alderman of Carrboro <br />requesting meetings and help with rebranding of Section 8. <br />Approval of Minutes <br />The minutes for April 8, 2014 were presented, however; due to the lack of a quorum no official <br />action could be taken. <br />Department Report /County Report <br />James Davis expressed the need of the AHAB to solicit for members and he asked that any ideas <br />for outreached be shared. Vanessa said that it would be helpful to fully understand what the <br />AHAB goals are and what effect that the board has on orange county policy. Diane mentioned <br />that the board should revisit the mobile /manufactured home study to determine how it can be <br />used to achieve the goals of the AHAB. James Davis tasked the board members with deciding <br />on how the study should be used. He suggested options such as compiling a list of locations, <br />their viability, and /or prospective consumer surveys. James Stroud mentioned the need of an <br />emergency action plan for those that reside in mobile /manufactured homes. <br />James Davis also shared that the Orange County Health Department initiative to foster familial <br />success is looking at different ways address child poverty in Orange County. He shared that they <br />have extracted information from the Housing Department, Department of Social Services, and <br />
