2 <br />Another set of documents provided for Board review and comment are the materials for BOCC <br />District Elections newspaper advertisements that would be published during October and early <br />November in four newspapers that serve the County. The map portions of these <br />advertisements are expected to predominantly appear in color format unless unforeseen <br />circumstances dictate otherwise. The Board may wish to make comments and revisions <br />regarding the materials. <br />The fourth attachment to this abstract, which was also provided with the September 19th agenda <br />abstract and is provided again here for reference purposes, is a Sampling of Potential <br />Advertising Opportunities and Costs through various media in the County. This information may <br />be helpful as the Board reviews the draft brochure and draft advertisement. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: At the September 19, 2006 regular meeting, the Board allocated <br />$15,000 from the BOCC Contingency account for the District Elections Education Process for <br />the November 2006 referendum. The Sampling of Potential Advertising Opportunities and <br />Costs attachment details. how a substantial portion of the $15,000 is proposed to be expended. <br />The $15,000 is in addition to the $1,385.48 expended as part of required official legal notice of <br />the district election referendum which the County provided as part of the referendum process. <br />That notice, provided as the last attachment to this abstract, appeared in a black and white <br />format during July 2006 in The Chapel Hill News, The Chapel Hill Herald, the News of Orange, <br />and the News of Orange Extra. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board review the attached draft <br />BOCC District Elections educational brochure and the materials for BOCC District Elections <br />newspaper advertisements, provide any comments and/or revisions to staff, and authorize staff <br />to proceed with brochure publication and newspaper advertisement placement. <br />
