To review and provide comments to staff regarding a draft BOCC District Elections <br />educational brochure and the materials for BOCC District Elections newspaper advertisements <br />that will be circulated to increase public awareness of the November 7, 2006 BOCC District <br />Elections Referendum. <br />BACKGROUND: The Orange County Board of Commissioners, with input from the public, has <br />put forward a referendum for November 2006 to modify the number of Commissioners who <br />serve on the Orange County Board from five to seven members and to establish residential <br />districts for the election of some Board members. <br />As part of the process leading up to the November 7t" referendum, the Board has discussed a <br />public awareness/education campaigri to improve public knowledge of the referendum. At the <br />September 19, 2006 regular meeting, the Board approved a proposed charge fora B000- <br />appointed District Elections Education Committee (The BOCC was scheduled to make <br />appointments to that Committee earlier in tonight's meeting.). <br />In addition, it was requested at the September 19, 2006 meeting that staff develop a draft <br />BOCC District Elections educational brochure and provide a preliminary draft of the brochure to <br />Board members for initial review and comment prior to tonight's meeting. The first draft was <br />provided to Board members as well as the County Attorney early last week. A second draft <br />brochure representing a compilation of the revisions/comments received is attached along with <br />a one-page summary of the revisions made to the first draft brochure. The Board may wish to <br />make additional comments and revisions regarding the brochure. <br />
