V. Subcommittee Updates <br />Executive Committee: <br />Vice Chair Ponder provided an opportunity for the board applicants to discuss why they were <br />interested in the joining the HRC. Each applicant spoke about their personal desire to join the <br />HRC and asked questions regarding the mission of the HRC. Members responded to the <br />questions. James Davis explained the process of being appointed and informed the applicants <br />that official appointments will be communicated to them via email. <br />Secretary Andrea Jones provided an update on the progress of creating an HRC Facebook page. <br />She stated that she is gathering information that would be added or linked to the page and invited <br />the members to submit relevant information. Secretary Jones also provided an update on the <br />progress of obtaining the documentary film on Grace Lee Boggs. She was not able to obtain a <br />licensed version to show at the library. Secretary Jones will create a flyer about the film that <br />could be distributed at the upcoming HRC events. <br />The members discussed the guests that should be invited to make presentations to the HRC. <br />Rollin Russell recommended that Luke Smith with El Futuro be invited. He can speak on the <br />provision of mental health service to the Hispanic community. Vice Chair Ponder recommended <br />that Dr. Timothy Miles and /or Dr. Emmanuel Kai Lewis be invited to speak about services to the <br />disabled community during this, the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act <br />(ADA). <br />James reminded the members that there will be a BOCC Work Session on Thursday, March 19, <br />2015 whereby all advisory boards will have an opportunity to present information to the BOCC. <br />Vice Chair Ponder will attend on behalf of the HRC. <br />Building Integrated Communities (BIC): <br />No Report. <br />Community Relations: <br />Diversity Matters — Rollin reminded the members of the upcoming film on the Wilmar 8 <br />(Saturday, March 14th) and the Community Read (Monday, March 23rd) <br />James asked the female members to consider presenting the Women's History Month <br />proclamation on Tuesday, March 17th. <br />Pauli Murray Awards — The members provided feedback on the Pauli Murray Awards. Natalie <br />Turner recommended that the caterer should arrive earlier so that the food is ready to be served <br />by the time the program ends. Guest Andy Cagle stated that his attendance to the program is <br />what prompted him to apply to join the HRC. It was recommended that the youth award honoree <br />be invited to join the HRC as an ex officio member. <br />Collateral Consequences: <br />No report. The members provided a summary of the subcommittee's mission for the guests. It <br />was recommended that the HRC host a Police /Community forum. <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />
