A copy of the 2016 meeting schedule was given to all members in attendance. <br />Matthew Hughes and Andy Cagle are both running for County Commissioner. James informed <br />the members that Matt and Andy can continue their membership during their respective <br />campaigns, but the HRC cannot endorse either candidate. Furthermore, no member of the HRC <br />may endorse a candidate on behalf of the HRC. <br />The members discussed the notion of drafting a statement in support of the Muslim community <br />in the wake of recent anti - Muslim rhetoric. James will consult with the Clerk to the Board. <br />V. Subcommittee Updates <br />Executive Committee: <br />The members were reminded to complete the Doodle Poll for the retreat date. <br />Building Integrated Communities (BIQ: <br />No Report. <br />Diversity Matters: <br />The members discussed the need for promotional materials for the upcoming Human Relations <br />Month Forum and the Community Read. James will get hardcopies of the Forum flyers to the <br />members. <br />Community Relations: <br />James provided an update on the number of posters and essays received for the respective <br />contests. While a few posters were received, there was only one (1) essay submitted. <br />Collateral Consequences: <br />Robin Criffield and Vanessa Soleil presented an update and recommendations. The <br />subcommittee recommended changing its name to "Community Justice." The three main areas <br />of focus will include: Re -entry (essentially what the original Collateral Consequences <br />subcommittee set as its focus), Anti -bias policing and community relations, and Youth (i.e. <br />addressing the school -to -prison pipeline). There was no vote on this name change and foci. <br />Vanessa will be working closely with the Second Chance Alliance and Robin will be working <br />with the Anti -bias Policing Coalition. <br />Robin provided an update on the newly formed chapter of SURJ (Standing Up for Racial <br />Justice). <br />VL Other Business /Announcements <br />None <br />VII.
