Introductions <br />Monica Richard and Robin Criffield provided an introduction of the guest presenters. <br />III. Presentation: Race and Policing <br />James E. Williams, Jr., Chief Public Defender for Orange and Chatham Counties, and Attorney <br />Tye Hunter, racial equity advocate, presented information regarding the disproportionate <br />minority contact with law enforcement. During the presentation, statistics were provided which <br />prove how Hispanic and African American men re stopped much more frequently by the police <br />than their White counterparts. There is a website, www.opensourcepolicin_g org, which provides <br />data regarding police stops. Mr. Williams and Mr. Hunter made recommendations regarding <br />specific steps that the County could consider to ensure a more equitable system. These <br />recommendations included hiring practices and training which would improve the caliber of <br />personnel and their skills regarding equity.
