C. Membership: Monica Richard reviewed the member attendance requirements and <br />provided an update on status of members. It was the consensus that attendance will be <br />reviewed quarterly. <br />1. Colin O'Banion resigned effective August 3, 2016. <br />2. Desaray Rockett, Youth Representative, resigned effective August 19, 2016. <br />Ms. Rockett has left the area to attend college. <br />3. Vacancies: The HRC presently has eight vacancies and is diligently working <br />though applications that are on file. The members agreed to invite persons <br />interested in serving on the HRC to the next meeting. <br />4. The HRC discussed the issue of absenteeism. It was stated again that all <br />members should contact the Chair or Pam Reynolds if they were unable to attend <br />a meeting. <br />D. Audrey Spencer - Horsley informed the HRC that the Affordable Housing Advisory <br />Board is planning a housing tour on September 10, 2016 and they are welcome to <br />participate. <br />VII. Subcommittee Updates <br />A. Diversity Matters: Rollin Russell put forth "Our Muslim Neighbors" as a focus <br />for the Community Read and the 2017 Human Relations Month. He is <br />recommending the book "No god but God" by Reza Aslan for the 2016 -2017 <br />Community Read. The members discussed the recommendation and whether the <br />focus should be broadened. <br />B. Community Relations <br />The following items were tabled after a brief discussion on the timing for these <br />events and whether there should be an evaluation on how they can be more <br />effective in reaching out and getting greater involvement by the community: <br />1. Pauli Murray Award Ceremony (Tabled) <br />2. Human Relations Essay Contest (Tabled) <br />3. Fair Housing Poster Contest (Tabled) <br />C. Community Justice <br />HRC discussed setting up procedures to address issues brought before them. They <br />agreed to check into what they can do and to take it on a case by case. Chair, <br />Monica Richard will develop a template for the Commission to follow. <br />VII. Other Business /Announcements <br />HRC members discussed the policy and procedures for removal of members that exceed <br />the limit of absences for meetings. <br />VIII.
