IV. County Updates <br />A. The commission has received a copy of the crisis plan developed by the Charlotte - <br />Mecklenburg HRC. <br />B. DSS is holding an Anti - Harassment Training on January 19, 2017. Uvonka Mercer <br />stated that she was attending. <br />V. Subcommittee Updates <br />A. Diversity Matters: As previously announced the book, "No god but God" is the <br />chosen book for the Community Read which is held in March. The planning for <br />this event is going well. <br />B. Human Relations Forum — January 29, 2017 will explore "Religious Freedom, <br />Pluralism and Islamophobia ". The program and the flyer for this event are <br />finished. Caterer and venue are reserved. <br />C. Community Relations <br />1. Pauli Murray Award Ceremony — Discussion held as to whether or not the <br />HRC would be prepared to hold the event on February 26, 2017 as planned. At <br />this time the venue is reserved and a speaker has been notified and accepted. <br />There was only one youth nominated and no adult or business. <br />2. Human Relations Essay Contest for middle and high school students: we <br />received 11 middle school essays and 3 high school essays. <br />D. Community Justice <br />Discussion was held about the logistics of the "hot line ": 1) what is to be done <br />with the call 2) how to educate people about who to call 3) resources need to be <br />consulted as to what roll they could play in this service. <br />VI. Other Business /Announcements <br />Audrey Spencer - Horsley asked the board to think about what they thought might be the <br />best number of members for the commission to have so they could more easily have a <br />quorum and be able conduct the business of the county. <br />VII.
