FROM: Orange County Arts Commission <br />SUBJECT: Monthly Meeting <br />DATE: January 13, 2014 <br />LOCATION: Chapel Hill /Orange County Visitors Bureau, Chapel Hill <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: Lindsey Alexander, Kate Dickson, Doris Friend, Gordon Jameson, Alice Levinson, <br />Devra Thomas <br />MEMBERS ABSENT: Geoffrey Hathaway, Debbie Hepp, Emily Lees, Ashley Nissler, Chris Wehrman, Cher Tuskey <br />STAFF PRESENT: Martha Shannon <br />Meeting called to order at 6:00 PM NO QUORUM <br />Topic A <br />Topic B <br />Topic C <br />Topic D <br />Discussion Point: Review of October, November and December, 2013 Minutes <br />Decision /Vote(s): In the absence of a quorum, no vote was taken to approve these minutes. <br />Action Item: None <br />Discussion Point: Director's Report <br />Decision /Vote(s): Interim County Manager Michael Talbert (an Assistant County Manager) has <br />announced his retirement (as an Assistant County Manager) at the end of March, 2014. But he will stay on <br />as Interim County Manager on a month -to -month basis. New NC sales tax laws do not affect individual <br />artists unless they do performance art and charge admission for people to watch, in which case they must <br />collect sales tax. 2014 performances advertised in 2013 are exempt. 2/21/14 Artists' Salon will be "Speed <br />Dating for Artists & Venues ", an idea presented by Meg McGurk of the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership. <br />Meg will solicit participation from the 2nd Friday Art Walk venues. 5/16/14 Artists' Salon will offer <br />EverWondr (online arts calendar) training. Seven (7) applicants have applied for the 2014 Piedmont <br />Laureate Program (authors of short fiction). OCAC Board Member Lindsey Alexander will serve on the <br />selection panel, scheduled to meet at the Durham Arts Council on January 24, 2014.The OCAC would like <br />our Public Art line item reinstated into the county's CIP. Gordon Jameson mentioned that we should <br />explore ways of being better partners with the Visitors' Bureau, starting with a meeting with Laurie <br />Paolicelli. OCAC Board Members Gordon Jameson and Devra Thomas volunteered to meet with her. <br />Action Item: None <br />Discussion Point: New Applicants for OCAC Board <br />Decision /Vote(s): New Volunteer Applicants Kathleen Ponder and Brian Finch were discussed. <br />Action Item: Staff will contact Kathleen Ponder to see if she is still available and interested in serving. <br />Staff will contact Brian Finch to ascertain his experience in the arts. <br />Discussion Point: CHOCVB Liaison, Ad Hoc Committee Updates <br />Decision /Vote(s): The CHOCVB board did not meet in December, 2013. <br />Action Item: None <br />Meeting adjourned at 6:50 PM <br />
