ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: September 19, 2006 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. 5- h <br />SUBJECT: Contract Between CHCCS, OCS, and Health Department for School Nurses <br />DEPARTMENT: Health PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Contracts Rosemary Summers, 245-2411 <br />PURPOSE: To approve the contracts between Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools (CHCCS), <br />Orange County Schools (OCS) and the Health Department for School Nurse Funding. <br />BACKGROUND: During the budget deliberations in FY 2001-2002, the Board of <br />Commissicners agreed to a four-year plan for achieving a goal of a full-time school nurse in <br />every public schocl in both CHCCS and OCS systems. The table below depicts the <br />implementation of the four year plan as it was authorized on an annual basis: <br /> 2001-02 02-03 03-04 04-05 05-06 06-07 <br />CHCCS 2 0 2+ 2 new 4 +1 new 5+ 1 new 6 <br />OCS 1 0 1 +1 new 2 +1 new 3 3 <br />New nurses were added in October of each of the years that they were authorized. The 2006- <br />2007 fiscal year is the first continuation year of the school nurse plan,. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: The total cost of the contracts is $537,289 and was authorized in the <br />approved budget for FY2006-2007. Orange County Schools will receive a total of $182,641 for <br />three nurses and the Chapel Hill Carrborc City Schools will receive a total of $354,648 for six <br />nurses. It is anticipated that the full cost in fiscal year 06-07 will be $537,289 depending on the <br />state salary scale for school nurses.. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the contracts <br />and authorize the Chair to sign, <br />
