The proposed agreement is for the Animal Control Division of the Animal Services Department <br />to provide select animal control services to the Town of Carrboro during the weekday business <br />hours of 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. These are what may be termed essential or critical services <br />such as responsibility for possible rabies exposures; the declaration of biting and aggressive <br />dogs as a danger under local as well as state laws; and field services for animals that are <br />injured. The remaining variety of Animal Control services beyond those expressly included in the <br />scope of service for this agreement will remain the responsibility of the Town of Carrboro. <br />County and Town staff will continue to negotiate the development of a longer-term contract for <br />the delivery of all animal control services to the Town by the Animal Services Department. Any <br />full-service contract beyond the interim period addressed here will be brought back for BQCC <br />approvah <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: Under the limited scope of services as proposed by Animal Services, <br />and if approved by the Town of Carrboro, the contract covers the full fourteen week interval as <br />contemplated, and would yield additional revenues to the County in the estimated amount of <br />$6,890, <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve Animal Services <br />to extent the existing contract with the Town of Carrboro for limited Animal Control services, <br />recognizing that said contract is dependent upon approval by the Town; and authorize the Chair <br />to execute the final contract document, pending final review by County management and the <br />County Attorney, <br />
