ORANGE COUNTY October 9,2017 at 6:30 p.m. <br /> Southern Human Services Building, Meeting Room C <br /> 2501 Homestead Road <br /> Chapel Hill, NC <br /> Board Members present: Tim 1-bke, Chair;Doris Friend, lbuetary; Tarish Rpkinss Chris Kubica, Bronwyn <br /> Merritt, Tinka,brdy, Dan Mayer,Ashley Nissler <br /> Board Members absent: Cbnsuelo Marshall, Helen,ones, Delia Keefe,Anita Mills <br /> Saff Members present: Katie Murray, Director, Georgia Brunner, Intern <br /> I. Hoke called the meeting to order at 6:30. <br /> II. Katie asked for darification about Item 8 in the August minutes. Following discussion, it was <br /> agreed that OCAC could be the locus of facilitated discussion(s)to explore various ways <br /> artists respond to issues such as racism, politics, social justice,etc. Mayer moved and <br /> Nissler seconded to approve the August,2017 and September,2017 minutes. Motion <br /> passed. <br /> III. Board Member Discussion: <br /> • Hoke moved that Chris Kubica be approved to serve as V ce Chair. Friend seconded. <br /> Motion passed. Hoke said he would be calling a meeting of the Executive <br /> Committee in the near future. <br /> • Following discussion of our continued strategic effortsto recruit board members <br /> with an emphasison diversity, performing artsand community involvement, Friend <br /> moved to approve the volunteer application of Linda Williamson. Hoke seconded. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> • It wassuggested that the up-coming listening sessionsto be held in November will <br /> be another opportunity to identify potential board members. <br /> IV. Use of F;bturned Grant Funds: <br /> • OCAC granted $2,265 to the "Shimmer" event in Carrboro. These funds have been <br /> returned due to the postponement of the event. Following discussion, it was agreed <br /> that a portion of these funds be used to establish a Friends of Orange County Arts <br /> non-profit. Murray agreed to prepare a proposal for presentation at the November <br /> board meeting. <br /> • We are expecting some additional income from the Rein Air event at the end of this <br /> month. The Town of Hillsborough has expressed an interest in a mural on the wall <br /> of the municipal parking deck. Pending funding,we will explore this opportunity <br /> further. <br />
