MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY NURSING HOME COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING <br />March 1, 2016 <br />The meeting was called to order by Chair, Teri Driscoll, at 5:30 pm. <br />The following members were present: Teri Driscoll, Chair, Sandra Nash, Vibeke Talley, Susie Deter, <br />Jerry Schreiber, Glenda Floyd, Jerry Gregory, Molly Stein, Mary Fraser, Dept. of Aging and Inas AL- <br />Rawas, our new Ombudsman, Carolyn Pennington, training Ombudsman and guest, Mia Burrough, <br />County Commissioner. <br />The minutes of the January 5, 2015 meeting was approved. <br />Inas AL- Rawas, our new Ombudsman who is now responsible for Orange County was introduced by <br />Carolyn Pennington who is the Ombudsman for Moore and Johnson Counties. A discussion was held <br />about the work of the Ombudsman legally, formally and informally with patients, families and nursing <br />home administrators and employees. The goal of the Ombudsman is to handle problems and concerns <br />immediately with those affected. <br />Site visit reports for Brookshire and Signature were given and accepted. Site visits still need to happen <br />at Carol Woods and Carolina Pointe before the end of March. <br />Report of Mary Fraser, DOA : <br />A Direct Care Award will be given for the second year to caregivers nominated by patients, families, and <br />employees from the county nursing homes. The deadline for these awards is March 31 and the award <br />event is May 18. <br />Dr. Bill Thomas will be giving an afternoon seminar on April 21, 2016 called "Disrupt Dementia" as well <br />as an evening seminar. More information will be forthcoming. <br />A seminar on Dying with Dignity will be held at the Friday Center on March 17, 2016 from 4 -7 pm. This <br />concerns the issues of doctor assisted death of seriously ill patients. <br />Reorganization for the coming year for the committee was held. Teri Driscoll will be Chairperson; <br />Vibeke Tally will be Vice - Chairperson and Sandra Nash will be Secretary. <br />Susie Deter and Molly Stein membership terms will expire at the end of June but they have agreed to be <br />reappointed. <br />Maria Hardin was reappointed through December 2016. <br />
