Orange County Adult Care Community Advisory Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />May 19, 2016 <br />Meeting convened: <br />Meeting called to order at 3:37 p. m. at the Passmore Senior Center in Hillsborough, NC <br />by Chairman, Max Mason. <br />Attendance: <br />Max Mason, Chair <br />A. John "Jack" Vogt, Vice Chair <br />Deborah Stewart, Secretary <br />Beverly Foster, Member <br />Deborah Rider, Member <br />Yvonne Mendenhall, Member <br />James Bartow, Member <br />Gloria Brown, Member <br />Carmelita Karhoff, Ombudsman <br />Will Lang, Member <br />Mary Fraser, Orange County Dept on Aging <br />The following committee members provided advance notice to Max Mason, Chair, that they <br />would miss the meeting; therefore their absence is considered excused: <br />Dan Hatley and Suzanne Haff. <br />Review Minutes, March 24, 2016 <br />The minutes were approved. <br />Ombudsperson Report, Carmelita Karhoff <br />"Vulnerable and Elder Abuse Awareness Month" is May 8th Mother's Day, through June 19th <br />Father's Day. Carmelita brought flyers for us to distribute at our facilities or anywhere else that <br />can benefit from education around this issue. Flyers included: Governor's Proclamation, NCEA <br />(National Center on Elder Abuse) statistics, symptoms to look for with guidelines on how and <br />when to report, and a list of Department of Social Service (DSS) contacts to call. <br />Inas AI -Rawas is no longer working with Ombudsman Program. Carmelita will remain our <br />primary Ombudsman contact. <br />State Ombudsmen office received letter from Administration for Community Living (ACL), a <br />federal group, with notice that our NC program might not match other state programs. ACL is <br />proposing a different application and appointment process. The committee reviewed the current <br />application and appointment process and highlighted the processes that we felt made it easier <br />to find a good fit for membership.
