The Council began discussing the <br />master plan and related matters, including the Mountains to Sea Trail as a <br />priority, and will continue during the October 1 meeting. <br /> <br />V. <br /> <br />Old Business <br /> a. Blackwood Farm Park and Soccer.com Center Capital projects – Stancil provided <br />an update on these projects. Planning to open Blackwood farm Park on a <br />weekends-only basis is proceeding, with a projected plan to the Board of <br />Commissioners on October 21. Initially, the only improvements will be a picnic <br />area, open field, interpretive signage around the farmstead, and several miles <br />of trails, plus basic amenities such as benches and picnic tables. A new mobile <br />restroom unit and other improvements are underway at Soccer.com Center <br />and these improvements should be completed and in place for the Spring 2015 <br />season. <br />b. Community Use of School Facilities for Recreation Resolution - Stancil noted <br />that the BOCC was scheduled to approve a resolution that facil itates more <br />usage of school facilities for recreation purposes the next evening (9/4), and <br />that he would be meeting with school representatives in the near future to <br />discussion options. <br /> <br />VI. Report of the Director (Stancil) <br /> a. Possible Park Concept Planning/Joint Planning-Fall 2014. Stancil outlined a plan <br />for creating concept plans for several land-banked park sites over the next 18 <br />months. To avoid confusion with the system master plan, staff plans to begin <br />using the term “concept plans” to refer to individual park planning. Green <br />requested that the master plan for the MST be raised to a higher status on the <br />schedule. Staff will look into this, and participate in a MST planning session in <br />the next few weeks held by the State Parks office. <br />b. Park Facility Renovation and Repairs update - Stancil noted the different <br />repairs and renovations to existing parks being undertaken for 2014 -15 from <br />this new capital fund. <br />c. Interactive Parks Locator Map – Stancil asked if the Council had any ideas for a <br />new “catchy” name for the map to help in branding. No ideas were generated, <br />members were encouraged to email Stancil of ideas. <br /> <br />VII. Committee Reports <br /> a. Intergovernmental Parks Work Group: No report <br />b. Friends of P&R: No report <br /> <br />VIII. Adjournment <br />The meeting adjourned at 8:22 p.m. Next Meeting- 10/1/2014 <br />
